Reindeer=rain?

This is D's first letter to Santa, as dictated to me. I had to coax him a bit in what elements to include, but the words are ENTIRELY his. This kid is far too cute.

Dear Santa,

Dalton is writing a letter to Santa so Santa will have a letter. It's gonna be Christmas night. I have been a good boy! Will you give me some toys?

I would like:

a robot dinosaur-rex
woody doll
books and movies

Thank you! Say hello to the reindeer. The reindeer comes when it rains.

Love,
(scribbly scribbly scribble)
Dalton

An important milestone

Dalton scared off his first door to door evangelist today.

She was handing me a tract, despite the fact I was obviously trying to open my mouth to say, "No thank you, we're atheists." Just then Dalton came to the store, completely naked. She said, "Oh, there's your little BOY," wished me a nice day, and left.

Score one for the toddler.

The Morning After

So please forgive the mess. This is the party aftermath. Yeah, this is what I'll be spending my day on.

So the turnout from Dalton's birthday party was ridiculous. Good, people love my child ridiculous, but still unbelievable. He's the most spoiled child in the world.

I posted these pictures of my house, torn apart from the party, for illustrative purposes. Here you have, respectively: My kitchen, shot from the living room; my living room shot from the kitchen, the foyer/entry room shot from the living room, and Dalton's room shot from the entry room. Oh, there's a half naked boy in there too.

What I'm illustrating is my house is fun-sized. It's PERFECT for the three of us and Jessie. Enough room to spread out, small enough to shout across the house for favors. Perfect. We can easily entertain two or three even if it's a little cozy.

Yesterday we had 30(!) people in this house. In just these areas, well, and the front porch. The definition of insane.

We had a great time. I'm really proud that I didn't totally over-achieve. Ordered the cake and some pizzas. Purchased veggie tray and meat/cheese tray. Made some rotel dip. Went off
great and I wasn't cooking for 8 hours. Anyone
who knows me knows that I normally would balk
at shortcutting in such a way. I'm so proud I stuck to my guns about making it easy.

Dalton got so much amazing stuff, all of which was very thoughtful as to what he's into. He loves all of his gifts and is still bouncing wall to wall playing with everything he got yesterday and earlier this week at my parents'. He really is a lucky, loved little boy. It makes me feel great that we've built a community around him that cherishes him so.

So today I'll be trying to pick up the pieces and restore order around here. After all of this party planning I really do have a bit of fire under my ass
to throw a grownup party, just for the hell of it.

My only regret is I got so busy with the party running that I really didn't get to cherish my birthday boy. He was sort of in his own world with all of the activity and other children, though, so I don't think he noticed. D loved having other kids here. I really need to get us out more to find kids his age to play with more often. Of course, I finally want to start going to the park and other activities when it starts to get cold. I'm lazy all summer.

So today I clean. Must do Dalton's room and the kitchen, along with figuring out what the hell to make for dinner out of the thousands of grains and little else populating my kitchen. *sigh* Probably will try to cheap it out for the week to make up for the extravagance of the party. It was worth it.

Dum dum dumb

What happens when I get in a Fall kind of mood . . .

I'm totally overachieving on dinner tonight:

-Oven Fried Pork Chops
-Hot Apples
-Green Beans
-Mac and Cheese
-Buttered Rolls
-Pumpkin Pie

Yeah, I'm nuts. But it's cool weather and all fallish. I'll post pictures once dinner is on the table.

Waiting Impatiently

Paul is finishing up the Amber Spyglass at this very moment . . . . Paul, if you're reading this before you've finished, stop reading now. I don't want to spoil a thing. Or if anyone hasn't read it yet I'd advise the same. Seriously, stop now. Stop!

*********************************************************************************

I don't know if God has died yet. I loved the way this part was written. I want it to happen already so I have someone to discuss this with. I've been waiting for MONTHS! Hurry up and die already, God!

ETA: He missed it! I think he got so caught up in the main story that he missed the passage. ARGGGGHHH! Must discuss!

Possibly my new favorite thing ever
